My name is Kim and I’m a lung disease sufferer with a unique combination of COPD (Emphysema) and Bronchiectasis.
COPD stands for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. It describes a group of lung conditions that make it difficult to empty air out of the lungs because your airways have been narrowed. Emphysema affects the air sacs at the end of the airways in your lungs. They break down and the lungs become baggy and full of holes which trap air. The airways can be inflamed and narrowed. This makes it very difficult to breath and your lungs are less able to take in oxygen and get rid of carbon dioxide.
Bronchiectasis on the other hand, is a disease in which there is permanent enlargement of parts of the airways of the lung. Symptoms typically include a chronic cough with mucus production. Other symptoms include shortness of breath, coughing up blood, and chest pain
This blog is meant for those who suffer from not only Bronchiectasis, COPD, but asthma or any other respiratory disease, regardless of whether it is ‘mild’ or ‘severe’. No matter where you are at in life, I am here to help and hopefully inspire you. Even if you’re reading this to help a family member, loved one, friend or colleague who is suffering.
Through my own experience, I hope to communicate a collection of experiences, advice and tips on how you can manage your condition and stay happy, healthy and strong!
I am by no means a doctor or medical professional, so please do not substitute your prescriptions or medications with any of my advice. My posts are merely a holistic attitude and suggestions on how to complement what you’re already doing, so do not discount what the professionals have advised you. Much of what I do is also a lifestyle choice, but I wish to help my fellow sufferers in the best way I can and from my personal experience.
Peace, love and hugs. And remember self-care is important so invest in yourself and make life a whole lot happier!
ps. I’d love to hear from any other sufferers out there whatever the subject may be!
